Our roof was over 25 years old and was in pretty bad shape. I wanted a metal roof as they don’t burn (we live in a high fire area). After talking with a several roofing companies, we went with Audrey of True Green Roofing. She not only provided us with a new roof quote, but she also made several suggestions that would enhance the look of our home. I’m building a detached garage at my home, and recently had a standing seam metal roof installed through True Green Roofing Solutions. I would highly recommend this company!
I called 4 roofing companies in the Reno area to try to get bids on this project. Two companies flat out told me they were too busy to do a project this small. One other company took forever to get back to me, and eventually gave me an astronomical bid. True Green was the only company I called who was helpful, prompt, and gave me what I felt to be a reasonable bid.
Audrey was fabulous to work with! She gave me a bid for the project, helped me choose the perfect color and style of metal to use, and coordinated everything with the installers. She was very pleasant and informative, and was always easy to get ahold of.
Vince and his install team were awesome as well! They did top notch work, and were always courteous and professional. This was probably the most positive experience I’ve ever had with a contractor, and I’m really happy with the finished product!

Having been lucky to have parents build a cabin on the West Shore 50 years ago, the painful ownership reality sunk in when my sister and I had to find a roofer to replace the original shake (and we live in Southern California).
As I began what I thought would be a painful process making contact with multiple companies, Audrey stood out immediately by returning my call quickly and offering to help. She and her team were amazing to work with from the beginning to the end. The quality of the work was fantastic and that showed when a huge thunderstorm hit during the middle of the project without a single leak drop!
I kept waiting for the bad news phone call saying it was actually going to be double the cost or termites were found but that call never came.

We had purchased a house in Lake Tahoe that had a 40 year old shake wood roof that needed to be replaced as it was at the end of its life and insurance companies weren’t too excited to insure as it was. We contacted over seven roofers to understand our different options. The solution Audrey and True Green Roofing offered seemed to deliver the most value as it was toward the low-end of most other bids for composite shingles, but provided much longer transferable warranty given it is metal. Audrey was a pleasure to work with and delivered to meet each commitment she made. True Green Roofing Solutions installed a new metal roof on my house in early January 2020. Audrey was awesome to deal with, she was always available to answer any questions or address any concerns I had. The process of choosing the materials and colors was simple and direct. The installers Pacific Coast were equally great. They were conscientious about possible weather issues and made sure everything was ready for any snow or rain during the install. They cleaned up each day and made several passes around my house after they were done to make sure no debris was left behind. I have had no issues since the install.
Audrey has followed up to make sure everything is still good and working as a roof should. I have gotten a lot of compliments from people in my neighborhood regarding the style and look of my metal roof. It definitely stands out in a sea of typical tan/brown roofs.
The cost was to my surprise less than the 40-50 year Comp. Roof quotes I received. I am totally happy and confident in True Green Roofing Solutions and Audrey. Building in Tahoe is a tough proposition, and she was able to work with us through our project delays due to weather or the permit process. Our design called for 16” Black standing seam panels on the roof as well as over 80 percent of the walls which meant close attention to details.

We had issues with the original installation of our metal roof and called 3 different roofers in addition to True Green to get opinions and estimates. True Green Roofing is NOT an installer. Audrey will consult with you, assess the problem and provide recommendations. The combined bid for materials plus workmanship (an independent contractor) was less than all the other bids and significantly less than 2. It was clear from her explanations and recommendations that she knew what she was talking about. Could not be happier. Great company and Audrey was easy and comfortable to work with. A note on the super negative review with 1 star. I do not know the reviewer and did not know Audrey or her company prior to using their services. The 1-star review is either a deliberate attempt from a competitor to undermine True Green Roofing or she did not understand what she was getting from True Green Roofing. They are not a roofing contractor. Read the rest of the reviews, which are all 5 stars and do not hesitate to call Audrey for a consultation, discussion, and recommendation and then make an informed decision.

While I wanted a metal roof for its longevity, efficiency, ease of maintenance, and ability to capture clean rainwater, I doubted that steel was within my budget. However, after getting several estimates for asphalt shingles, the bid Audrey gave me for stone-coated steel (with a LIFETIME warranty) was barely more than those I received for basic asphalt shingles with just 15 to 30-year warranties. No brainer! The roof looks great, my house is noticeably more efficient, and I can collect rainwater without worrying about the carcinogens associated with asphalt shingles. I’m certain the reduced heating, cooling, and maintenance costs (not to mention prevention of potential health costs associated with the asphalt tea that ran off my old roof) will offset the only marginally higher price of steel. I highly recommend True Green Roofing Solutions.

Stone Coated Shake Metal Roof by True Green Roofing Solutions
In 2018, we hired True Green Roofing Solutions and a roofing contractor with whom they work (Sierra Coast Roofing out of Reno) to install a Tilcor stone coated metal shake roof on our family cabin in Kings Beach. It was a re-roofing project on a steep A-Frame. We are very pleased with the results. There were some glitches with the project–personal health emergencies with the contractor’s family and workers, getting enough roofers in a timely fashion to do the very challenging removal of old shakes, the installation of an OSB underlayment and the new roof–but it all worked out quite well. The finished product looks great, and so far so good with its performance in the rain and snow this winter. To make up for the long delays, the roofer and Audrey offered to install a metal covering over a weathered superstructure surrounding our stove chimney–a good business practice to make sure that the customer was happy. And we are happy. Audrey with True Green and Juan with Sierra Coast seem to “know their stuff”. I recommend Audrey for her facilitation skills in making the job happen and Juan and his crew for their hard work and craftsmanship.

This last Fall we re-roofed our Tahoe cabin. The existing roof was the original cedar shake roof that, after 40 years, was beginning to show its age. We started the process several years ago, going to home shows, reading online reviews, talking to roofers and the owners on neighboring properties. We first encountered True Green Roofing Solutions at the Truckee Home Show about 3 years ago. We were intrigued by the steel roofing system that they provided and, over the following couple of years researched steel roofing systems as compared to the more common asphalt shingles. When we finally made the decision to move from “investigation” to “installation” , we contacted three roofing companies and received input from each and bids from two–one for an asphalt shingle system and one for a steel roofing system (Gerard “Canyon Shake”, with full ice guard underlayment and EPS foam insulation (Sierra Coast Roofing).
Both companies were responsive to our inspection and bid request, but in the end Audrey Smith of True Green Roofing was both more attentive, more helpful in responding to our design questions, provided more past projects we could see, and less “pushy” than the other company. And, surprisingly the bid was less that the asphalt shingle bid. We choose True Green Roofing Solutions and could not be happier!
I was onsite during the installation process (I actually “moved in” to the cabin so I could be there to both see the installation, answer any questions, and “shout out” if I didn’t like anything). Juan of Sierra Coast Roofing was present at key times, insured the work was going as represented, and was very easy–and professional– to work with. Audrey was onsite as frequently as Juan, perhaps even a bit more often, and was responsive to any and all questions, never rushed us, and demonstrated an amazing knowledge of both the product and the installation process. She interacted with the crew doing the work, explained it to us, and made one or two runs for some additional material the crew needed–not a trivial thing since she had to drive from the worksite to Reno and back. After the installation was completed, both Juan and Audrey, separately, met with us at the cabin to make sure there were no loose ends, no problems we had seen or things we would like done to ensure our satisfaction. Impressive!
The actual work process was handled impressively by the crew. They cleaned up at the end of each day, left no excess materials when they were finished, and even cut up some lumber battens they used in the installation so we could use it as kindling for our fireplace.
Having spent 44 years providing professional services to clients, I know good service providers from poor ones. True Green Roofing Solutions and Sierra Coast Roofing fall into the truly impressive category. A great final product (just in time for this year’s heavy snow fall); great personal attention, and, an approach to client service that goes above and beyond.
I cannot recommend True Green Roofing more highly.

This summer we decided to finally replace the roof on our 1924 Craftsman Bungalow in old Reno. Aesthetically, it was important to maintain the historic integrity of the house, but it was also equally important to consider a more green option.
We chose to move forward with a metal roof option due to its Energy Star rating, lifetime warranty, fire-proofing properties, and its recycled content. Another consideration was that we plan to capture rainwater and snowmelt for landscaping and over time the
metal roof will not shed material like an asphalt shingle roof, offering
cleaner water for collection and storage into a cistern. After the decision
to move forward with a metal roof option, we took some online
recommendations to look into True Green Roofing because of their metal expertise. I spoke right away with Audrey Smith, and the same day as my initial call she was on-site with brochures and literature to peruse.
I was sold on the fire-proofing and energy-efficiency and was prepared to pay more for these “guarantees”. Roughly five years ago, we replaced the roof on the garage with shingles, and I am surprised to see several of the shingles already lifting and buckling. I was impressed with the level of communication from True Green Roofing Solutions,
specifically Audrey, as we sifted through metal roof options. Aside from perfect communication and accurate timelines, Audrey is incredibly knowledgeable, and a joy to work with.
We have lived in the house with the new roof for 4 months now, and as the colder weather is approaching I can absolutely feel the efficiency of the metal roof holding in the heat, and the cool in these past warm, end-of -summer months. This first bill that
arrived for the chilly month of October, there was roughly a 25% saving
from last October. This was the goal!! Very happy to see the lower bills
continue. Aesthetically, the roof looks absolutely beautiful. There have
been several inquiries when I am out working in the yard. Everyone wants to
know what type of roof it is and where we got it from. I would certainly recommend True Green Roofing Solutions!! In fact, the garage will be next as the shingles continue to
lift. I will review again in the future as we do get a rainwater/snowmelt
situation in place. A metal roof was the most practical roofing solutions
and lends itself to a classic style complimenting our historic Craftsman

In the spring of 2009 my husband and I drove to Truckee for a home and garden show – we knew we were going to need to replace the old shake roof on our log cabin. It can be difficult at times to find good, reliable businesses in Lake Tahoe – a business willing to take a job, show up and provide quality work for a competitive price.

She recommended a licensed, certified contractor to perform the installation and from that moment on everything moved along like clockwork. We are so pleased with our new roof.
