A. Stone Coated Steel Roof Systems use steel panels that are protected from the elements by corrosion resistant Galvalume. The base coat uses proprietary resins, which have been developed over many years to promote lifetime performance in all climates. The stone chips that are used in Stone Coating are non-oiled natural granite granules that improve adherence to the base coat while enhancing the appearance of panels.

WEIGHT
Q.   Is a Metal Roof Heavy?
A. At only 1.4 lbs. per square foot, a Stone Coated Steel Roof is truly “lightweight”. Concrete and clay roofs can weigh up to 15 lbs per square foot! In fact a stone coated roof is even lighter than most high-grade asphalt roof shingles.

SOUND
Q. Is a Metal Roof or Stone Coated Steel Roof noisy?
A. No! The dead air space between Stone Coated Steel Roof Panels and the roof deck creates a convective airflow, thus reducing noise. This also allows for ventilation which results in cooler roof structures in the summer and warmer structures in the winter.

Combined with are horizontally locking ring shank nail or screw the system is virtually indestructible.

INSTALL OPTIONS
Q. Does an existing roof need to be torn off to install a Stone Coated Steel Roof?
A. Not necessarily. Stone Coated Steel Roofs can be installed over existing wood shingle, shake or composition roofs. Your local contractor will check local building codes. Additional preparation work may be necessary to get the surface ready for your new stone coated metal roof.

Q. Is a Stone Coated roof safe during an earthquake?

Q. Is Denting a Problem?
A. Again, no! In fact, Stone Coated Steel Roofs can stand up to hailstones, snow loads and extreme wind conditions without any structural or cosmetic damage.
